The Kentucky Office of Rural Health (KORH) is celebrating director Matt Coleman, who was recognized with the 2025 NOSORH Spirit of Rural Award during last week’s National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) Annual Meeting.

The Spirit of Rural Award highlights leaders who go above and beyond to strengthen rural health through collaboration, vision, and dedication. Coleman’s work at KORH has focused on building partnerships, supporting communities, and ensuring Kentuckians have access to the care they need close to home.

“I’m honored to receive this award, but the real recognition belongs to the communities we serve and the incredible partners who share our commitment to rural health,” Coleman said. “This work is never about one person. I’m grateful to be part of a team that comes together to expand access, improve health, and create lasting change.”

The Kentucky Office of Rural Health (KORH), established in 1991, is a federal-state partnership authorized by federal legislation. The UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health, located in Hazard, serves as the federally-designated Kentucky Office of Rural Health. KORH works directly with clinicians, clinic and hospital administrators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to improve the accessibility of health care services for the Commonwealth’s rural and underserved residents. The office connects communities and health care organizations to local, state, and federal resources while working toward long-term solutions to financial, quality improvement, and workforce challenges.
