Charles Marshall Selected for 2017 Academic Leadership Academy Program Offered by Bluegrass Higher Education Consortium

Charles Taylor Marshall, PhD, associate professor at the University of Kentucky (UK) Center of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH) in Hazard, is among 41 faculty and professional staff from nine Kentucky colleges and universities selected as fellows for the fourth Academic Leadership Academy sponsored by the Bluegrass Higher Education Consortium.

UK nominated eight fellows, including Marshall who serves as the course director for human gross anatomy, physiology, histology and neuroanatomy as a part of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.

Representatives from other institutions include Asbury University, Berea College, Bluegrass Community and Technical College Centre College, Eastern Kentucky University, Midway University, Morehead State University, Sullivan University, and Transylvania University.

The academy’s purpose is to build future leaders in higher education for the Bluegrass Region. Faculty and staff selected as fellows are encouraged to consider leadership career paths. They also receive guidance in developing the necessary knowledgebase and skill sets required for effective institutional leadership.

The fellows participate in two full-days of training where university presidents, vice presidents, provosts, deans and other key leaders present keynote addresses, panels and workshops. Fellows complete a research project for their specific institution between the spring and fall sessions.

The spring session was on the Mt. Sterling campus of Morehead State University. The fall session will be at Asbury University in Wilmore. On October 18, the 41 current fellows will join the 134 previous fellows in completing the curriculum.

The 12 university presidents represented in the consortium lead this specific initiative. Bluegrass Tomorrow manages the Bluegrass Higher Education Consortium and the Academic Leadership Academy.
