Program Locations

The eighteen-month MLS program is offered at the UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH), located in Hazard, Kentucky. The MLS program uses a hybrid instructional design that includes both in-person lab instruction and distance education via live ITV.

The first cohort of five students graduated in December 2013. Of these graduates, all were either employed or planning to attend graduate school upon graduating from UK.

According to the National Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national average salary for a Medical Laboratory Scientist is $60,520.

Interested students must apply before the application deadline of March 3rd to begin the program in August.

Second BS Degree

Students with a bachelor degree in science (e.g., biology or chemistry) from another university in the U.S. are eligible to obtain a bachelor of health science in medical laboratory science after MLS program prerequisites are met.

Transfer Students

Students completing their general education requirements and program requirements at a two-year or four-year institution can transfer to UK and apply to the MLS program.

Online CLT to MLS*

This track will only be available to graduates of a NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences) accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (or Medical Laboratory Technician) program.
