Physicians with the UK HealthCare and Cincinnati Children’s Joint Pediatric Heart Surgery Program discussed the new program’s progress and success in providing advanced specialty care at Kentucky Children’s Hospital at a news conference on Friday morning, Aug. 4. One of the first patients to receive pediatric heart surgery as part of the new joint program, five-month-old Magdalen Wilson and her parents Thom and Lauren Wilson, attended and shared their story. Other participants in the news conference were UK pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. James Quintessenza; Dr. Andrew Redington, executive co-director of the Heart Institute and chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Cincinnati Children’s; Bo Cofield, UK HealthCare chief clinical operations officer; and Dr. Scottie Day, associate chief medical officer at Kentucky Children's Hospital.

UK HealthCare and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center are working together to provide outstanding pediatric cardiac services for patients in Kentucky and beyond through a partnership finalized in January 2016. The program was developed to jointly provide pediatric heart care and other services at Kentucky Children’s Hospital via a “one program, two sites” model that combines the strengths of UK HealthCare’s advanced subspecialty care with one of the country's leaders in children's health care, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. This partnership provides an opportunity for more Kentucky children to receive care closer to home.
