Five graduating residents and fellows from the UK Department of Surgery will continue serving Kentucky patients as new UK surgery faculty members or in private practice. In addition to the graduates joining UK in Lexington, one graduate is joining the team at Ephraim McDowell Regional Hospital in Danville and another will remain at the UK-affiliated General Surgery group practice at UK St. Claire Hospital in Morehead.
Other graduating residents have joined group practices or matched into advanced surgical fellowships at other prestigious hospitals and cancer centers in the nation.
"The UK Department of Surgery has a very storied history of educational excellence," said Melissa R. Newcomb, MD, vice chair for education within the department. "These graduates are continuing that tradition. We are all proud of every single one of them."
The department extends its sincere congratulations to the Class of 2026 and offers best wishes for their continued success!
