Residency Programs
The UK College of Medicine Department of Surgery hosts three surgical residency programs: general surgery, plastic surgery, and a cardiothoracic surgery I-6 program. Each has a distinguished reputation for preparing medical students for a professional surgical practice after five or six years, depending on the program.
At the conclusion of the program, graduates are well-prepared to begin a professional practice. For those who wish to continue their training, our residents regularly match into fellowships at leading national and international surgical training programs, including our own University.
General Surgery
This five-year program is structured to educate qualified and highly motivated individuals into superior clinical and academic surgeons.
Cardiothoracic Surgery
This integrated six-year program is designed to provide aspiring medical school graduates with the education and skills training necessary to become competent professional thoracic surgeons.
Plastic Surgery
This six-year integrated program is designed to prepare residents with the education and skills to become competent professional plastic surgeons.
