Electives and Observerships

The department of surgery currently offers two electives for first- and second-year medical students on the Lexington campus. These courses offer students an opportunity for exposure to the operating room and early career exploration. Requirements to pass are intentionally kept light as electives should not interfere with mandatory College of Medicine coursework.

On the Lexington campus, the department of surgery offers a limited number of observerships each academic year.

All observers must be onboarded by UK HealthCare's Office of Learning & Experience.
