The UK HealthCare Hand Center at Turfland, a dedicated center for the diagnosis and treatment of hand, wrist, and forearm concerns is open for patients. Whether the result of trauma, overuse, or traumatic issues, patients of all ages can be seen by a team of specialty-trained hand surgeons and hand therapists.

“Hand pain affects every aspect of everyday life, and it can range from frustrating to debilitating,” said Dr. David Drake, director of the Hand Center. “With this new dedicated team, we can efficiently help more patients get back to doing the things they love.”

The UK HealthCare Hand Center, the only comprehensive hand surgery service serving central, southeast and Eastern Kentucky, works closely with other medical specialties, including fellowship-trained musculoskeletal radiologists, orthopaedic sports medicine doctors, rheumatologists, and physical medicine and rehabilitation doctors.

The 5,000 square-foot center features on-site diagnostic testing, on-site hand therapy, guided imaging injections, and the latest in supportive orthopaedic devices and therapies. Should surgery be required, many procedures will be performed at the adjacent Lexington Surgery Center.

“We have assembled a superb team of providers to address all the patient's needs at the point of care. It’s truly a one-stop shop for hand care,” said Drake.

Some of the most commonly treated conditions include:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Cubital tunnel syndrome
  • Trigger finger
  • Ganglions
  • Arthritis
  • De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Dupuytren’s contracture
