The UK Department of Surgery’s Professionalism, Integrity, and Equity (PIE) leadership announced in July that the first recipients of its Acting Internship Scholarship Award for 2024-2025 are Dakota St. Pierre and Michael Denning, Jr.

Dakota St. Pierre is a 4th year medical student at the University of Oklahoma.  He will rotate at the University of Kentucky on a Plastic Surgery from July 29 through August 23.

Michael Denning, a 4th year medical student at Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, will rotate on Pediatric Surgery from August 23 through September 20.

The UK Department of Surgery initiated this scholarship in 2022. Acting internship scholarships are available to 4th year visiting medical students who plan on pursuing a surgery residency with the stipend intended to defray travel and living expenses that students will incur during their four week rotation at UK.

Please join with Surgery PIE in congratulating Dakota and Michael on being selected. Their achievements and commitments are commendable.

United in their efforts to foster respect and insight, the UK College of Medicine and the Department of Surgery, through PIE initiatives, are committed to advancing excellence in teaching, innovation, compassionate care, and fostering a culture of inclusion where diversity is valued and embraced.
