The continued growth and success of UK HealthCare as a University HealthCare Consortium (UHC) leader was the subject of a special lecture on Saturday morning, June 4, at the 58th Annual World Congress of the International College of Angiology (ICA) in Prague.
Dr. Sibu Saha, Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Kentucky and ICA board member, was invited to deliver one of the ICA special lectures on the final day of its Annual World Congress. Among his colleagues, Saha said that there has been interest in UK HealthCare’s recent success in developing affiliate networks to streamline delivery of specialized health services across the Commonwealth. Therefore, he was asked to present a lecture he entitled, “UK HealthCare, A Rising Star among UHC: A Critical Analysis of Success.”
In recent years, UK HealthCare has been a pioneer in the development of affiliate networks in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. UK has built strategic alliances with other state healthcare systems and regional hospitals through its leading programs in advanced heart care through the Gill Heart Institute, cancer treatment through the Markey Cancer Center, and in stroke care via the UK HealthCare-Norton Healthcare Stroke Care network.
These networks have experienced “phenomenol growth” and drawn international attention to the University of Kentucky. The integration of UK’s health care enterprise with its academic medical programs and the Kentucky Medical Services Foundation (KMSF) has drawn the attention of colleagues, Saha said, and he was pleased to present a critical analysis for those who may wish to emulate UK’s progress.
“UK is rightly considered a ‘rising star’ among UHC members for the way it has developed its affiliations and organized itself. It has recruited excellent physician leaders, built modern facilities, and had an impact on the overall health care structure of its service area. That was the focus of my lecture,” Saha said.
