John Draus, MD, named pediatric surgery division chief
Dr. John Draus, MD, FACS has been selected as the Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery, according to a recent announcement by Dr. Jay Zwischenberger, Chair of the Department of Surgery.
In this role, Dr. Draus has been charged with maintaining the excellent clinical outcomes of the division, building the division through targeted recruitment, fostering a strong educational and academic mission, and strengthening relationships with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Dr. Draus will continue to be a leader for the surgical care of all pediatric patients and champion family-centered care throughout Kentucky Children's Hospital.
Dr. Draus has been a faculty member of the Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery since 2010. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Draus completed medical school, residency and a research fellowship at the University of Louisville. He finished his training in pediatric surgery at Riley Children’s Hospital at Indiana University. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Pediatric Surgical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Draus served as the medical director of the University of Kentucky’s level 1 pediatric trauma center since 2015. In 2017, he was named the interim Associate Chief Medical Officer for Kentucky Children’s Hospital.
He is a member of the Kentucky Trauma Advisory Committee, the Kentucky Pediatric Emergency Care Coalition, and the Kentucky State Committee on Trauma. He is also president of the Kentucky State Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. His clinical interests include trauma, pediatric oncology, minimally invasive surgery, and neonatal surgery.
