The fifth annual Richard W. Schwartz Memorial Lecture and Surgical Symposium will welcome Dr. Michael Edwards, chair of the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Surgery, as its special guest to deliver the Schwartz Memorial Lecture. The annual event will be held at a new location, the Karpf Auditorium in Pavilion A, on Thursday, October 18 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm.

In addition to Dr. Edwards’ lecture, the Surgical Symposium will feature Dr. Tiffany Wright, an assistant professor of surgery in the pediatric surgery division of the University of Louisville, and Dr. Anthony Bottiggi, assistant professor of surgery in the UK division of General Surgery.

Third year UK general surgery residents will also provide case presentations as part of the symposium.

The event celebrates the life and work of the late Dr. Richard W. Schwartz, whose passion for excellence in surgical education and development of physician leaders earned him a national reputation that continues to be honored into the present day.

To honor his legacy, the University of Kentucky Department of Surgery established the annual Richard W. Schwartz Memorial Lectureship.
