Dr. Henry Vasconez was one of four members of the UK HealthCare faculty honored this year with induction into Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), the national medical school honor society. Members of the University of Kentucky AOA chapter bestowed the honor on them and on three UK residents. In addition to these special honors, the UK AOA recognized nine medical students for membership into the honor society.

Dr. Vasconez, who holds the William Stamps Furnish Endowed Chair in Plastic Surgery, is well into his second decade as a professor and clinical plastic surgeon with the UK College of Medicine. According to Charles “Chipper” Griffith, MD, Vice Dean for Education, the faculty and resident inductees were selected in recognition of their commitment to quality medical education and achievement.

“They say that the best award is to be recognized by your peers. I would add that it is just as good to be recognized by your students,” commented Dr. Vasconez with regard to the honor.

Each year, the UK Chapter of AOA inducts medical students who demonstrate “high academic achievement, excellence in class leadership and service, community service and engagement, and scholarship and research endeavors.”
