Dr. Sibu Saha, a longstanding member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery faculty at the University of Kentucky, has established a scholarship with the Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF), the charitable arm of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), to enable aspiring CT Surgery residents to attend the society’s annual meeting.

The scholarship award, entitled The Thoracic Surgery Foundation Saha Scholarship Award, was created to encourage residents’ participation in the society. Attendance at the annual meeting will allow young residents to learn and network with the community of thoracic surgeons.

Stipulations of the award is that one will go to benefit a CT resident from the United States and another award to support a resident studying in India.

The scholarship will cover registration, lodging expenses, meals, transportation, and other related costs associated with attending the meeting.

An official application will be forthcoming at the Thoracic Surgery Foundation website. In addition to the application, residents must submit the following material:

  • Applicant CV
  • Biographical information
  • Personal goal (100 words maximum)
  • Career goal (500 words maximum)
  • Education environment at their institution (750 words maximum)
  • Statement of Financial Need
  • One (1) Letter of Support

Applications will open on July 15, 2020. Deadline for all application material is September 15, 2020. Applications will be reviewed by the Awards Committee of the Thoracic Surgery Foundation.
