The 2022 resident and fellow class at the UK College of Medicine Department of Surgery will either be continuing their training in fellowships at some of the most prestigious programs in the country or starting their surgical practice in Kentucky or within this region of the country. If not in this region, Texas appears to be the foremost beneficiary of the University of Kentucky's newest class of surgeons.

 

GENERAL SURGERY

Roberto Aru, MD will continue surgical training at Johns Hopkins in vascular surgery. 

Travis Hughes, MD was accepted into the vascular surgery fellowship program at the University of Kentucky. 

Robert King, MD will pursue an advanced GI MIS fellowship at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson AZ.

Katie Kraft, MD continues her surgical training in a transplantation surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University.

Amy Tefft, MD will begin her practice in general surgery at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Ky.

Sam Walling, MD continues his training at the University of Kentucky in the colon and rectal surgery fellowship program.

Jingkun Wang, MD will begin a general surgery practice at Lake Cumberland Regional in Somerset, Ky.

 

PLASTIC SURGERY
Alisha Paranzino, MD continues her surgical training as a microsurgery fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
Bud Sauer, MD continues his surgical training as a hand surgery fellow at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas

 

CT SURGERY
Peter Rodgers-Fischl, MD continues his surgical training as an advanced aortic surgery fellow at Cleveland Clinic

 

HAND SURGERY FELLOW
Jessica Vavra Walker, MD is going into private practice as a hand surgery specialist in Knoxville, Tennessee.

 

COLON AND RECTAL SURGERY FELLOW
John Frankel, MD will be a colon and rectal surgeon at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio

 

CRITICAL CARE SURGERY FELLOWS
Daniel Bolten, MD and Christine Dahlhausen, MD accepted offers to join the surgical faculty at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

 

VASCULAR SURGERY FELLOW
Kaleb Kohler, MD has accepted an offer to join a vascular surgery practice at OhioHealth in Mansfield, Ohio
