The 2018 Department of Surgery class of residents and fellows embark on their next appointments
At the end of June, Department of Surgery chief residents and fellows will transition to advanced training or begin their professional surgical practice.
Among the 2018 class, the Department of Surgery will welcome two into faculty positions in Vascular Surgery and the division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Kentucky will also gain a practicing general surgeon and plastic surgeon out of this class.
Others are bound for fellowship training or faculty positions in some of the most respected centers in the country. Every year is unique in particular ways. Several members of the class have chosen to specialize in trauma and critical care surgery. Worthy of note is one general surgery chief's intent to practice two years in Rwanda, Africa for Samaritan's Purse.
