UK College of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine
A 945-bed level 1 trauma center, UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital has been serving the healthcare needs of Kentucky and surrounding states for many years. UK is an advanced, academic medical center with a broad range of surgeries, averaging 35,000 operations a year. CRNAs manage all ages and surgical case types except obstetrics, liver/heart/lung transplant, and open heart surgery. With the high acuity and complex case load seen at UK HealthCare, our CRNAs, while functioning within the care team model, practice autonomously and to their full scope of practice. Our CRNAs utilize their entire skill set including invasive line placement and some neuraxial, regional excluded. With a state-of-the-art Sim Lab and weekly educational conferences, keeping one’s knowledge and skill set at peak performance are high priorities for our anesthesia department.
The UK College of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine allows for great schedule flexibility, promoting the work-life balance. CRNAs at UK are hourly employees that work 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts M-F and use a self-scheduling system to determine the days they work. Every Saturday and Sunday is staffed with two CRNAs and these shifts are first come, first served on an optional overtime basis. Every Friday and Saturday night is staffed with one 12 hour CRNA. The vast majority of weekend nights are covered on a volunteer basis and CRNAs are not responsible for providing call coverage. CRNAs work an average of one major holiday every 5 years. Leave time is calculated differently than as stated on the HR website and is approximately six weeks. Professional development time and funds are also included.
With a competitive benefits package, flexible schedule, healthy work-life balance, and lifelong learning opportunities, the department of anesthesiology, perioperative, critical care, and pain medicine has plenty to offer. CRNAs with an appreciation for academic medicine and complex disease management are encouraged to apply. We hope you’ll join us!
