Welcome from Our Chair

Welcome to the Working in Medicine and Science (WIMS) Committee at the University of Kentucky. We are a College of Medicine-based community for faculty and learners at all levels interested in networking, professional development and food for the soul as a part of our professional journeys. We're proud to be a diverse group, encompassing all phases of career from the undergraduate to dean level and all divisions and departments within our college.

WIMS sponsors awards, grants that support young investigators, mentorship, social events and professional development opportunities which address the hurdles each of us face. Looking for a group of colleagues with whom you can: learn about imposter syndrome, go to the art museum, explore uses for artificial intelligence in your professional life, win a trivia contest or develop time-management skills? WIMS is for you — as it is for everyone.

I have been an active WIMS member since I moved to Kentucky from Philadelphia in 2022. When I first arrived, I felt disconnected from my friends and professional community. WIMS has been a huge part of what helped me to thrive as a new Wildcat. I owe WIMS several close friendships, many lovely afternoons (my favorite memory is the WIMS retreat hosted by Dr. Gupta which included a trip to the Woodland Art Fair), my InBox Zero practice, and my step-counter.

Making the College of Medicine a place where we all feel supported is a core goal for our committee. Come join us to be the community you wish to see in our College - there is a button just below this message which says "Join WIMS". Click it, and I'll see you at our next event.
