About WIMS
What is WIMS?
WIMS (Working in Medicine and Science) is a vibrant organization led by faculty, staff, learners, and trainees of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, grounded in networking and mentorship and supported by relevant, focused programming. WIMS aims to facilitate career advancement by providing opportunities for collaboration, education, fellowship, and community involvement. All members of the College of Medicine are invited and encouraged to participate in WIMS events and get involved as members.
WIMS is a self-governed group led by learners, trainees, faculty, and staff representing many departments across the College, including both Basic Science and Clinical departments. Those involved in WIMS can participate as "at-large" members of the organization, or can become a part of the Executive Committee by serving as a co-chair of a WIMS subcommittee.
WIMS presents a variety of awards each year, facilitates a professional development program and mentorship group, participates in community outreach events, hosts networking and educational events, and so much more. WIMS Day, a half-day conference held annually on the second Thursday in October, features a keynote from a nationally-renowned visiting professor, a panel discussion, a professional development workshop, research presentations from WIMS booster grant awardees, and a reception to celebrate WIMS and all it contributes to the College of Medicine Community.
