The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is excited to welcome Courtney Tomblinson, MD, back to the Commonwealth on April 1. The Carrollton, Ky., native joins the UK College of Medicine as the associate dean for faculty development.

In this role, Dr. Tomblinson will work within the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development to advance professional fulfillment for faculty. These objectives include:

  • Leading faculty development programs for faculty of all ranks and title series across all UK College of Medicine campuses
  • Enhancing College of Medicine leadership development programs
  • Managing and enhancing College of Medicine awards and recognition programs
  • Continuing to bring new and innovative approaches to faculty development to the College of Medicine

She will also join the UK College of Medicine Department of Radiology as an associate professor. 

Prior to joining UK, Dr. Tomblinson served as a neuroradiologist and associate professor of radiology and radiological sciences at Vanderbilt University for six years. She was also the program director for Vanderbilt’s neuroradiology fellowship.

She has plentiful experience in faculty development, including serving as the assistant director for the Vanderbilt Educator Development Program. Through this role, she supported medical education by facilitating faculty development initiatives and workshops.

Throughout her career, Dr. Tomblinson has also led many faculty development workshops and presentations for national radiology organizations, including the American Society of Neuroradiology, American Society of Head and Neck Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, and American College of Radiology. 

In 2024, she received Vanderbilt’s Academy of Excellence in Education inaugural Early Career Impact Award. She was named the Bruce J. Hillman Fellow in Scholarly Publishing from the American College of Radiology in 2022.

Dr. Tomblinson received her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Louisville and her Bachelor of Science at Western Kentucky University, the UK College of Medicine’s academic partner in helping develop its Bowling Green Campus. She completed her residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona and was awarded the American College of Radiology Valerie P. Jackson Education Fellowship.
