Welcome from the Vice Chair for Research
Research is integral to the UK College of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine. Understanding that research is a team effort that starts with a great idea, the department strives to mentor students, residents, fellows, and faculty to develop good ideas into proven concepts and therapies that improve the health of patients or the education of learners.
The research support team assists department members with grants, study design, data collection, statistical analysis, and publication. In addition, the department collaborates with the UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science and the Applied Statistics Laboratory for expert consultation.
The Department currently participates in the FAER Medical student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF) and the UK Professional Student Mentored Research Fellowship (PSMRF). We encourage and support research efforts by our students, trainees, and faculty.

Anesthesiology Research Intake Form
The anesthesiology research intake form is a standardized approach to documenting the ongoing research projects in the department of anesthesiology. Following completion of this form, the departmental research coordinator should reach out to the primary investigator to discuss what departmental or other resources may be needed to successfully complete the research project.
Anesthesiology Research Fund Request Form
The anesthesiology research fund request form is a standardized approach to requesting departmental research funds for use in departmental research. These funds will be offered on a rolling basis and through two specific requests for applications annually. Although priority will be given to projects that have the potential to lead to future UK or external funding, other projects will also be considered. Funds should be used for purchase of supplies, equipment, or materials essential for the conduct of the research project. The results of funded projects must be presented to the department.
Resident Research Rotation Request Form
The resident research rotation request form allows UK anesthesiology residents to submit a request for a research rotation during their residency. This request must be approved by the rotation director, your faculty mentor, and the residency program director. For more information, please see the UK anesthesiology residency handbook.
Student Research Intake Form
The student research intake form is designed for students to register their interest in research with the department of anesthesiology. Following completion of the form, the departmental research coordinator should reach out to you to discuss what will be needed to conduct research within the department. In addition, we will connect you with faculty mentors in your stated areas of interest and provide you with resources for research success.
