Helping Navigate the Later Stages of Dementia
The CARE Compass program is designed to support those caring for someone in the later, more advanced stages of dementia. These stages are marked by increased caregiver demands, changing communication abilities, and decreasing physical decline. Dementia progresses differently for everyone, so that the later stages may vary from family to family.
The CARE Compass program focuses on four areas: Care Needs, Activities, Resources, and Education.
Care Needs
Care segments address the daily tasks and challenges families encounter when providing care for someone in the later stages of dementia. These hands-on demonstrations about personal care, mealtimes, medications, and other day-to-day tasks will help you manage your loved one’s needs while improving the quality of life for you both.
Activities
Activity segments will equip care teams with creative ideas and strategies to encourage engagement with people in the later stages of dementia. Whether through music, movement, or calming breathing techniques, these activities will help you create a positive environment and foster meaningful connections during this stage of life.
Resources
Resource guides embedded with printable checklists, caregiving instructions, and links to national organizations can help as you navigate this journey. These materials were selected with your needs in mind and can be used both in conjunction with the videos or on their own. We hope these tools help you feel confident in taking the next steps forward.
Education
Education segments are designed to inform, support, and guide families facing the later stages of dementia. These talks, led by specialists, will provide you with practical insights and compassionate advice on agitation, medical issues, recognizing discomfort, and other concerns that care partners may experience.
