Explore Your Options

Biomedical and behavioral science fields offer a wide range of career possibilities, many of which students and early-career professionals may not initially realize exist. Exploring these options early is an important step in identifying interests, strengths, and long-term goals. Intentional training experiences — such as the Sanders-Brown KYAD-PREP, TRIAD T32, and REC Scholars — allow individuals to learn about different pathways, both academia and beyond, while building practical skills and confidence that translate across the job spectrum.

Training Alumni

Individuals we've worked with over the years through our training programs have gone on to various types of science-related employment, many of them outside the academic arena. Our program is structured so that trainees have an opportunity to interact and converse with successfully employed individuals whose careers span both academic and non-academic settings.

Profile shot of Elizabeth Rhodes, a TRIAD postdoc alum

The TRIAD program was a launching point for my career. My postdoctoral training through this T32 provided me with skills and knowledge that opened doors I didn’t know existed and has led me to a successful early-career phase as faculty.

Elizabeth Rhodus, PhD, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA
TRIAD postdoc alum, Sanders-Brown assistant professor
Ahmed Bahrani

The REC program contributed to my professional development by supporting equipment acquisition, data collection, mentorship, and collaboration. It strengthened my ability to work in interdisciplinary research environments.

Ahmed A. Bahrani, PhD
REC Scholar
Alaine Hernandez

My time as a REC Scholar strengthened my commitment to advancing equitable, evidence-based music interventions for persons with dementia through interdisciplinary research and prepared me for clinical trial leadership.

Alaine E. Reschke-Hernandez, PhD, MT-BC
REC Scholar
Profile shot of GYeon Oh, a postdoc alum from the TRIAD program.

TRIAD provided a strong foundation of structured training and interdisciplinary mentorship. Its supportive research environment was instrumental in my scientific growth and contributed to my successful transition to an NIA-funded K99 award.
