Rotation Specialties
- Cardiac - Adult cardiac surgery with broad exposure to coronary, valve, and aortic surgery including experience with heart failure and transplant. Includes consult coverage and bimonthly clinics at on-site Veteran's Administration (VA) facility. (All VA patients go to UK Hospital for surgery and post-op management.)
- Thoracic - General thoracic surgery with broad exposure to lung, esophageal, chest wall, pleural, and mediastinal diseases
- Includes on-call coverage of on-site VA facility for thoracic emergencies
- Congenital - Congenital cardiac surgery
- CT-ICU (Cardiothoracic ICU) - Comprehensive critical care management for cardiothoracic patients
- Surgical Critical Care - Management of emergency general surgery patients in a critical care setting
- ECHO/Cath Lab - Cardiology focused rotation teaching performance and interpretation of cardiac testing. Hybrid rotation with the cath lab and interventional pulmonary experience, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Peds ICU - A hybrid rotation with Pediatric ICU for congential cardiac patients and evaluating congenital heart disease in cath and echo labs.
- Track-specific Chief Rotation - Varies depending on planned practice focus of resident either cardiac or thoracic at UK
