The University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center is a Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center since 2013, maintaining the busiest stroke service in the state and one of the busiest in the country, with 1,195 stroke discharges in 2024.

The Neuroscience floor spans across two towers and covers more than 66,000 square feet, accommodating 32 progressive care rooms, 20 neurologic intensive care rooms, and a 12-room epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU), which is the largest EMU in the state.
Our Stroke Inpatient Service is divided into multiple teams: Stroke ICU, Stroke Consults, Stroke PCU, and Stroke Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Teams.
The neuro-interventional radiology procedure space contains 43 prep/recovery beds with multiple new angio suites, including two biplane suites and an intraprocedural CT. On call neuro-interventionalists provide 24/7 care to our stroke patients.

University of Kentucky is part of the UK HealthCare/Norton Stroke Care Network, which is a network of 40 affiliate hospitals.
Our team uses Viz.ai to connect with the network (currently 33 sites), providing patient consultation and accepting patients for transfer to our facility, including for emergent mechanical thrombectomy.
We are excited to announce Tele-Stroke is in the near-future.
We are also part of the NIH StrokeNET with many ongoing clinical research trials. We are highly engaged in quality improvement and patient safety research. Kentucky Neuroscience Institute Clinic

The Kentucky Neuroscience Institute Clinic is located within the University of Kentucky Clinic, adjacent to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center. This clinic is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of neurology and neurosurgery providers, in addition to pharmacists and physical therapists, working together evaluating and treating patients with complex neurological conditions
Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital

Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital is an off-site rehabilitation hospital for stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions. It also consists of an outpatient clinic. It is located less than 2.5 miles from the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center. It is staffed by the University of Kentucky Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine providers.
