Why did you choose the University of Kentucky?
I grew up in a small town in Southeastern Kentucky and always dreamed of being a doctor. I had a lot of ill family members who needed to be seen by specialists that my area didn't have available, so we made numerous trips to Lexington. The quality of care they always received from the experts at UK made me want to be trained by them so that I can provide that same care to those who need it most. I also did undergrad here and really enjoyed all the different things to do that aren't available where I'm from and made many friends along the way. Although the area I wanted to specialize in changed many times throughout my training, I always knew I wanted to be here.
What do you like about your program?
One of the reasons I wanted to complete my training here is the exposure I get to illnesses that I wouldn't normally see in a rural outpatient setting. While some of those are not things I will encounter regularly, if ever, I still want to be prepared just in case so that I can help my patients get the care they need. I also really appreciate the level of autonomy I get as a resident while still being very supported when there are problems I don't know how to manage. Everyone here is so welcoming and ready to help adjust to life as a resident and beyond.
What are your hobbies?
My absolute favorite thing to do after a long day is to hang out on the couch and watch baseball with my daughter, specifically the Cincinnati Reds (heartbreaking, I know). We also love watching UK football, basketball, and baseball. Other than that, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter finding different restaurants around Lexington and going to the park or hanging out in the backyard with our dogs. I also like playing video games with my friends when I have time.
