In the first of two special presentations in the "Hangin' With Zwisch"  series of Research Colloquia, the office of Sponsored Research Administrative Services (SRAS) introduced staff members who are directly connected with the Department of Surgery. The presentation also included information on ASSIST, the on-line service created by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to make the process of applying for multiple research grants easier.

The slide show covering the presentation is attached with the conclusion of this story.

Key personnel included the following:

  • Lauren Brown, Grant Proposal Specialist - offering assistance with proposals, eIAFs, Progress Reports, and Post-Submission Information
  • Sandra Holley, College Budget Analyst - providing assistance with budget revisions and completion of the subaward request form
  • Tish Roussos, Grant Reconciler - Financial reports and expense reconciliation questions.
  • Mary Gay Whitmer - Manager, Pre-Award - Send questions to 257-4152, marygay.whitmer@uky.edu
  • Gina Vessels - Manager, Post-award - Send questions to 323-0767, ginavessels@uky.edu
  • Susan Stark, SRAS Manager - 257-1746; susan.stark@uky.edu.

The presentation outlined the required advance steps and the "3-Day Deadline" for eIAF submissions and when the SRAS can take over processing.

The presentation concluded with a general overview of changes to the application process for NIH grants and the expansion of the ASSIST on-line program. The new web-based submission system has an advantage of being much more user-friendly than former on-line systems the NIH previously developed.

There are also significant changes in biosketch requirements and NIH policy updates with an emphasis on greater rigor, transparency, and replicability  in funded projects.

The SRAS will return in December for part 2 of their presentation. The date is to be announced.
