The series encourages discussion across surgical, anesthesia, and pulmonary critical care topics. Faculty moderated question bank sessions occur monthly. Surgical critical care fellows present one lecture during the academic year.

Weekly Quality and Operative Conference to review recent operative cases by program faculty and fellows for management options, service line M&M, and opportunities for process improvement. This conference also provides discussion of related evidence-based medicine research in the field of surgical critical care.

Weekly Surgery Grand Rounds where surgeons, residents, and other attendees are provided with up-to-date knowledge of surgical issues encountered in academic practice. Surgical critical care fellows present one Grand Rounds lecture during the academic year.

Weekly Surgery Morbidity and Mortality Conference in which fellows participate and present cases that they have participated in.

Monthly TACS Journal Club in which fellows lead review of recent journal articles in trauma and surgical critical care topics. Interactive discussion across learner levels is facilitated by program faculty. There are often additional journal club opportunities throughout the academic year both within and beyond the division including topics of high-level review or quality improvement.

Monthly Interdepartmental Trauma Quality Assurance Committee meetings where advance operative or diagnostic procedures are discussed. The IDTQA also identifies process improvement opportunities and establishes loop closures, including updating protocols. Surgical critical care fellows are invited to participate in these meetings.

Monthly SICU Life & Death Rounds are facilitated by program faculty and hospital chaplains to provide a supportive space for reflection each month. L&D Rounds are open to all learners on service. Surgical critical care fellows are invited to engage with this series as needed throughout their year in training.
