Biography and Education

Biography

Dr. Neil Toupin, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, discovered his interest in Child Neurology during an outreach neurology rotation during medical school. During medical school, Neil conceived and implemented an institutional protocol for evaluating and treating newly diagnosed children with infantile spasms. The complexity child neurology affords, the research possibilities within the field and the dual role a child neurologist serves as caregiver and counselor attracted Neil to pursue a child neurology residency. Dr. Toupin appreciates the strong clinical relationships that child neurologists build with their patients, as well as the complexities of the field. A former competitive chess player and licensed private pilot, Neil’s eclectic background has translated into personal patient care. Neil views fostering personal connections and relationships with patients as among the most rewarding aspects of medicine. He has participated in medical mission trips to Guyana, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. After completing his residency, Dr. Toupin will work as as faculty at the University of Kentucky, focusing on child neurology, neurogenetics, and autism. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, as well as traveling, aviation, reading, and chess.
