Job Description:  The University of Kentucky College of Medicine Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time, movement disorders specialist to join its growing movement disorders program.  The position may be tailored to match the interests and skills of a faculty recruit, with possible general duties including:

  • Pursuing the faculty member’s passion as related to our clinical, research, and educational missions
  • Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with movement disorders in the outpatient clinic.
  • Occasionally attending and teaching on the neurology inpatient service
  • Education of residents, medical students, and fellows.
  • Pursuit of external funding to support clinical services and research programs.
  • Participation on committees to represent the department of neurology as requested by the chair
  • Attending department faculty meetings and other conferences.

Program Description:  Located in the heart of Lexington, the UK HealthCare Movement Disorders Clinic specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with Parkinson's disease, Parkinson-plus syndromes, torticollis, and other dystonias, Huntington's disease, tremors, spinocerebellar syndromes, myoclonus, and many other neurodegenerative illnesses involving the cerebellum and basal ganglia.  Patients also are evaluated for blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, and cerebellar ataxias.

Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of 4 fellowship-trained movement disorders neurologists, two highly-trained experienced advanced practice providers, as well as pharmacists, nurses, social workers, and a patient services coordinator.

Our team provides specialized care, including botulinum toxin for all types of dystonia including torticollis, writer's cramp, musician's cramp, sialorrhea and focal dystonia in the limbs. Surgical options, including deep brain stimulation (DBS), pallidotomy, and carbidopa-levodopa enteral suspension (CLES) delivered by PEF/J, are available for appropriate patients with Parkinson's disease.  Multiple experimental trials to evaluate the safety and efficacy of new drugs and procedures for Parkinson's disease and Parkinson Plus syndromes are also available for appropriate patients.
