Position: Adjunct, Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Neurology
Appointment: Full-time or Part-time
Department: Neurology
Division/Subspecialty: Epilepsy/EEG
Academic Track: Clinical
Work location: Lexington, Ky., and/or Remote
Requirements: MD or DO, completion of neurology residency, and eligibility for Kentucky licensure. Completion of appropriate fellowship (Epilepsy and/or Clinical Neurophysiology) before the start date.
Job Description: The University of Kentucky College of Medicine Department of Neurology is seeking a fellowship-trained epileptologist or electrophysiologist who is interested in full-time work reading long-term video-EEGs and providing consultations for our busy Acutely Ill and Critically Ill video-EEG Monitoring Service (referred to as BrainTelemetry). This position can be organized as a hospitalist position in which no other service or clinic work is required or can be paired with other inpatient or clinic services.
The position can be somewhat tailored to match the interests and skills of a faculty recruit, but the general duties could include:
- Providing attending coverage for the BrainTelemetry service, including interpretation and consultation on video-EEG monitoring and STAT EEG results.
- Taking day and overnight call to consult on emergent seizure activity or status epilepticus.
- Oversight and instruction of residents, medical students, and/or fellows rotating through the BrainTelemetry service.
- Pursuing the faculty member’s passion as related to our research and educational missions.
- Providing coverage of routine EEG service, including ambulatory video-EEG monitoring interpretation.
As the primary duty for this position is interpreting video EEGs, EEGs, and responding to calls, this position may be performed in person, remotely, or in a hybrid model. We can also consider part-time as well as full-time appointments.
Program Description: The UK HealthCare BrainTelemetry service provides support for patients across UK Chandler and Kentucky Children’s Hospitals who have or are at risk for seizure activity while on our inpatient services. The service caps to 10 patients undergoing video-EEG monitoring and is staffed by up to four EEG technologists during the day. At night, two EEG technologists manage both the BrainTelemetry and the EMU service lines.
