About the Rotation

Fourth year medical students are offered a four week elective ophthalmology rotation. Students spend time in the clinic and operating room on the vitreoretinal, glaucoma, cornea and external disease, neuro-ophthalmology, pediatric ophthalmology, and/or comprehensive ophthalmology services. Students also spend time helping resident staff consults in the emergency room and hospital.

They also participate in all scheduled didactic and wet lab activities.

Minority Scholarships

Any student that self-identifies as underrepresented minority (URM) is eligible for a $1,000 scholarship to help offset some of the cost of travel and lodging.  For the purposes of this scholarship, URM includes:  Black or African Americans, Hispanic Latinos, and American Indians or Alaskan Natives.  If you are accepted for a rotation and interested in voluntarily providing your information and receiving this scholarship, please contact Danny Moore, the ophthalmology residency program director, at daniel.b.moore@uky.edu.

Away Rotations

Students who are interested in pursuing an away rotation in our department should apply via the Visiting Student Application Service. Please note that a rotation in our department does not guarantee a residency interview.
