Wellness In Training Committee 

Devoted to helping GME learners achieve their highest potential through the integration of the physical, social, emotional, environmental and economic aspects of wellness. This committee was established to develop recommendations for a systematic and sustainable approach to support wellness and resilience within our GME trainees. 

Chaired by Asha Shenoi, MD, assistant dean of Graduate Medical Education.

Lactation Spaces

A lactation room is located across the hall from resident physician workspace and proximate location from physician lounge. Additional lactation rooms location throughout hospital, meeting TJC and ACGME requirements. A map with lactation maps is coming soon.

Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure

If you have a blood and/or body fluid exposure, please follow these directions carefully.

Wash the affected area immediately with soap and water or cleanse with alcohol if appropriate.

  • If exposure involved the eyes: irrigate with clean water, saline, or sterile irrigants.
  • If exposure involved the mouth, nose, or skin: flush immediately with water.

Report the exposure immediately to your Program Director, ensuring labs can be obtained on the source patient.

Follow up with Team Health as soon as possible – 606-408-4900. If closed, please go to the Emergency Department.

  • Use the needle stick order set (type in the word needlestick); this will ensure the correct labs are ordered for both parties and the patient does not receive a bill for lab work. In Epic – use Orderset 1898 Blood & Body Fluid Exposure
  • Source patient will be tested for: HCV antibody and if positive tested for RNA PCR, HIV Ag/Ab; Hepatitis B Surface antigen (HBsAg)
  • The exposed individual will be tested for Hepatitis C antibody, HIV Ag/AB, HBS (Hep B Surface Antibody), HBsAg, Total Hep B Core, and HCV RNA if the source is unknown or positive.

UK King’s Daughters is commitment to both the physical and psychological safety of our workforce. If you witness, or are the victim of workplace violence, please consider reporting it. Incident reporting can be accomplished by calling ext. 89787, or by completing an RL6. Both resources for reporting are available 24/7.

All reports will be thoroughly investigated by the hospital’s multidisciplinary workplace violence response team. Not only will the information be used to address the reported issue, but also it will allow us to develop best practices in combating workplace violence. Violence is not, nor should it ever, be considered the norm.

The Joint Commission definition of workplace violence:

An act or threat occurring at the workplace that can include any of the following: verbal, nonverbal, written, or physical aggression; threatening, intimidating, harassing, or humiliating words or actions; bullying; sabotage; sexual harassment; physical assaults; or other behaviors of concern involving staff, licensed practitioners, patients, or visitors.

Transportation

  • Trainees who feel too fatigued to drive safely from the hospital to home should arrange for transportation with King's Daughters transportation services or shuttle.
  • Cards displaying King's Daughters' transportation telephone number are distributed to trainees during orientation and are prominently posted throughout the facility and parking areas. Information desk staff are available to call transportation services on request.
  • Please be aware these services are not to be used as routine daily transportation or for personal trips; however this service is a resource to transport home from King's Daughters when too fatigued to drive.

The King's Daughters Ashland Chapel is located on the first floor near the Lexington Avenue entrance. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for quiet reflection, meditation and prayer.

GME offers a range of tailored services designed to support residents in meeting the unique challenges of medical training.
