Work Safety
Your Safety Matters
UK HealthCare is committed to safety and well-being of patients, visitors, and staff in our enterprise. We take all forms of aggression, violence, and threats seriously. Sometimes frontline staff don't report these incidents, because they feel disruptive behavior is "part of the job." There is uncertainty about how and where to report.
We know that workplace violence in health is growing and we are taking steps to ensure workplace safety at UK HealthCare. We want to ensure we have a healthy work and healing environment that is free from inappropriate, disruptive behavior that could hinder delivery of safety, quality patient care. This approach applies to patients, visitors and staff.
Examples of aggressive behaviors include but are not limited to:
- Threats of any kind against the welfare of another person
- Physical aggression, including assault
- Verbal harassment, including abusive language, cursing, or sexual language
- Behavior that puts oneself or others in harm’s way

- Healthcare workers are at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens when incidents such as a splash with potentially hazardous body fluid contacts the inside of the eye, nose, or mouth, or when a sharp object that had pierced through the skin of a patient subsequently pierces through the skin of the health care worker.
- Click here to report a bloodborne pathogen exposure.
- Regardless of patient history, all potential bloodborne pathogen exposures should be reported.
- The University’s work compensation program covers employees of UK who work throughout the 120 counties within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

- This service is only to be used from UK Chandler Hospital and UK Good Samaritan Hospital. UK GME Uber Service does not apply to affiliate hospitals.
- UK GME Uber Service is provided free of charge to University of Kentucky residents and fellows. However, this service will be closely monitored to ensure overuse/abuse doesn't occur.

GME Parking Allowance
GME will issue a monthly parking allowance of $42 to your paychecks. This amount covers the expense of the Intermediate “E” parking permit. If you do not want to pay any expense out of your pocket, please select payroll deduction as your payment method. If you chose to pay for your permit in full, please note, you will not be reimbursed in full at the time of purchase. Instead, you will receive the additional $42 monthly parking allowance on your paychecks for the year.
Starting July 1st 2025, the E8 permit allows permit holders to park in the UKHC garage and upper levels of the Good Samaritan garage. For more information please go to the UK Transportation Services website.
*Since residents and fellows are paid biweekly, this monthly expense and allowance is divided in 2, so a $21 parking expense and $21 allowance are applied to your first 2 paychecks of each month.
- If you chose a more expensive parking permit option, you are responsible for the additional expense.
- The monthly parking allowance provided to you is intended to cover the cost of the E-Permit. If you choose not to sign up for a UK parking permit, the additional parking allowance will be removed from your paycheck.
