Jamie Ward, Undergraduate Medical Education Coordinator for UK Department of Surgery, was invited to deliver a keynote address to other coordinators and administrators during the Association for Surgical Education’s annual conference in Austin, Texas. She spoke about maintaining good work-life balance while still being a dedicated employee.

Ward expressed appreciation to Dr. Jay Zwischenberger and Dr. Joe Iocono for coaching her and also to her supervisor, Linda Combs, for encouraging her to step outside her comfort zone. “Giving a mock presentation to my mentors helped tremendously. Dr. Zwischenberger suggested an excellent visual to incorporate into my talk. He and Dr. Iocono helped me cut out some of the fluff. I take great pride in working at UK and wanted to represent our department as best I could.”

Ward delivered her address on Thursday morning, May 3, at the J.W. Marriott in downtown Austin. Ward said, “I feel like it went really well. There was a lot of discussion afterwards, so I was happy about that. It was an honor to be selected and I was touched by all the support from the department.”
