The American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) awarded Dr. Tessa London a scholarship to participate in the James L. Cox Fellowship in atrial fibrillation surgery. She is one of only seven surgeons selected to participate in this fellowship training in 2018.

The fellowship is an immersive, high intensity program designed to educate clinical thoracic surgeons on the various treatment options for patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AF). AF is a form of heart arrhythmia in which a patient’s upper, or atrial, heartbeat is chaotic and out of sync with the beat of the two lower chambers.

The training will give surgeons an overview of the heart disorder, introduce them to the full range of treatments for AF, and when surgery may be a necessary intervention to correct it.

Dr. London completed a thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Kentucky and subsequently accepted an offer to join the cardiothoracic surgery faculty beginning in the latter half of 2018.

While a UK CT Surgery fellow, she also earned academic distinction as a 2017 and 2018 recipient of fellowship research scholarships from the International College of Surgeons, US Section.

Dr. London will attend the fellowship just prior to beginning her surgery practice at UK HealthCare.
