Dr. Deborah Erickson Named Lifetime Achievement Award Winner

The Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU), the premier specialty society for female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, recently announced Deborah Erickson, MD, assistant dean for preclinical education, as the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award winner.  

 The SUFU Lifetime Achievement Award, established in 1986, is presented annually to an individual who has made continuing and progressive contributions that have had a significant and lasting effect on the field.  

“Dr. Erickson is more than deserving of this honor,” said Charles H. Griffith, MD, vice dean for education. “Since coming to the University of Kentucky in 2004, she has given more than 200 presentations to learners at all levels from lay persons to board-certified physicians and has received seven teaching awards. In her role as assistant dean for preclinical education, she has not only been a driving force for educating our medical students and residents in urology, but has also been critical in leading our efforts to integrate foundational science with the practice of clinical medicine, which she has done spectacularly.”

“I feel very honored,” said Dr. Erickson. “Preparing the acceptance speech was a quite a challenge. There was not enough time for even cursory thanks to the many people who helped and inspired me.” 

 The Award was presented to Dr. Erickson on March 1 at the SUFU 2018 Winter Meeting in Austin, Texas. As the award winner, Erickson delivered the Blaivas Lecture, titled “Great People and Great Ideas.”
