David Drake, MD, the William S. Farish Endowed Chair of plastic surgery at UK HealthCare, has been named as one of the official visiting professors for the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (SESPRS) for 2024.

SESPRS sponsors two visiting professors annually from their active or lifetime membership. In January, the professional society announced that Dr. Drake and Jorge de la Torre, MD, director of the plastic surgery division at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, would serve in those positions this year. Each has served as past president of SESPRS and have distinguished careers as providers and educators in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

This is the second time a member of the UK HealthCare Plastic Surgery faculty has been asked to serve SESPRS in this capacity. Henry Vasconez, MD, served as one of the organization’s visiting professors in 2018.

As visiting professors, Drs. Drake and De La Torre are available to bring their clinical, educational, and technical expertise to benefit plastic surgery residency programs as well as to state and regional society meetings.

Dr. Drake has outlined a wide range of topics he can address. As the director of the UK HealthCare hand surgery service and fellowship program, Dr. Drake has included an extensive list of subjects covering the treatment of common and sport-related hand injuries, vascular disorders, and specialized hand surgery procedures. These are in addition to other reconstructive services as well as discussions of case studies, surgical ethics, and patient safety.

Requirements to book them for a presentation are available through SESPRS website. Programs must be ACGME-accredited, and the program host must be an active SESPRS member.
