College of Medicine honors four from Department of Surgery in belated 2019-20 Academic Convocation Awards
The COVID-19 pandemic may have forced a delay in awarding academic honors for the 2019-20 Academic Convocation, but it did not diminish the accomplishments of UK College of Medicine faculty, residents, and students during that challenging academic year. An announcement of award winners in medical education, released in April 2021, included three UK Department of Surgery faculty and a general surgery resident.
Jitesh Patel, MD, Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, and Sibu Saha, MD, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery were named 2020 recipients of Excellence in Medical Education Awards from the Academy of Medical Education.
The College of Medicine class of 2021 honored Cortney Lee, MD, Division of General, Endocrine, and Metabolic Surgery and Co-Director of the Surgery Medical Education Office, with a Distinguished Teacher Award for faculty.
Satya “Sai” Dalavayi, MD, a PGY-2 general surgery resident, was also recognized by the class of 2021 with a Distinguished Teacher Award for residents (Intern Teaching Award.)
