The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery recently named Melissa Banks as its new residency and fellowship coordinator. Though she had already been handling some of the job duties of the position as a STEPS employee, Banks assumed the position officially on Friday evening, January 20.

A native of Harrodsburg and a graduate of the Harrodsburg Independent Schools, Banks attended Berea College for her undergraduate degree. She went on to the University of Kentucky where she earned a Master’s degree in Education from the division of curriculum and instruction. Professionally, she has served as a consultant on education and education policy for nearly 15 years.

Combined with the 10 months of experience she has had with the UK Department of Surgery in the STEPS program, Banks is ideally suited to take over the reins as the medical education specialist for CT Surgery, commented Linda Combs, director of Academic Support Services for the Department of Surgery.
