Biography
Dr. Ima Ebong evaluates and cares for patients with epilepsy and neuromuscular disorders as part of the expert team at the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute. Ebong earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and master’s in bioengineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. After working for the Bahamas Ministry of Health, she decided to become a physician and earned her medical degree from the UK College of Medicine. She then completed her residency in neurology and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
Ebong holds an appointment as an assistant professor of neurology and clinical neurophysiology in the UK College of Medicine. She is an adviser to the College of Medicine’s pipeline program, which develops programs to recruit underrepresented minority high school and college students to UK’s medical school.
As a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), Ebong was selected to participate in the AAN’s Diversity Leadership Program in 2019. The program aims to identify, mentor and engage AAN members from underrepresented minority groups for leadership development. Ebong has been actively involved in healthcare diversity efforts for many years. When she was a medical student, Ebong founded University of Kentucky Minority Education Development (UKMED), an annual program designed to recruit premedical students from underrepresented populations to the UK College of Medicine. UKMED is still an active program of the university since its founding in 2010.
Her clinical interests include general neurology, focal epilepsy, generalized epilepsy, psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, neuropathy, myopathy, motor neuron disease and electrodiagnostics.
