Job Description:  The University of Kentucky College of Medicine Department of Neurology seeks a full-time neuropsychologist to join its growing neuropsychology program. The position may be tailored to match the interests and skills of a faculty recruit, with possible general duties including:

  • Pursuing the faculty member’s passion as related to our clinical, research, and educational missions.
  • Neuropsychological direct patient care.
  • Attending on the neuropsychology inpatient and outpatient services as designated by the division chief.
  • Education of externs, graduate students, residents, medical students, and fellows.
  • Pursuit of external funding to support clinical services and research programs.
  • Participation on committees to represent the department of neurology as requested by the chair.
  • Attend Department faculty meetings and other conferences as required.

Program Description:  

The division of neuropsychology at the UK College of Medicine Department of Neurology boasts a rich history that spans four decades, having been established in 1985 by Dr. Frederick A. Schmitt. The division comprises a team of nationally and internationally renowned faculty members. The division faculty also hold additional appointments in various departments and centers, including neurosurgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral sciences, psychiatry, the UK Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center, and the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. The Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, a global leader in aging research, served as the home of "The Nun Study" for 18 years, and currently is the home of the Down Syndrome – Aging and Alzheimer's Disease Study, both considered seminal studies on neurodegenerative conditions. Furthermore, the University of Kentucky is where the International Society of Neurogastronomy and the Saddle Up Safely Equestrian Sport Guidelines originated, spearheaded by the division faculty. The division's faculty members have been sponsored by diverse sources, including the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Department of Education, foundation grants, endowments, clinical trials, industry partners, and think tanks. In clinical practice, the Division's consultations serve 24 hospital surgical, inpatient, and ambulatory service lines and 62 regional hospitals and clinical practices.

UK HealthCare has earned the top spot on the Best Regional Hospitals list for Kentucky and the Bluegrass Region according to U.S. News & World Report, further reinforcing its status as a healthcare leader. The Stroke Center at UK has been designated as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and has garnered accolades such as the American Heart Association Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and the Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Award. Additionally, the University of Kentucky holds the highest Level 4 Epilepsy Center designation from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.
