Job Description:  The University of Kentucky College of Medicine Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time, memory and behavioral disorders specialist to join its growing memory and behavioral disorders program.  The position may be tailored to match the interests and skills of a faculty recruit, with possible general duties including:

  • Pursuing the faculty member’s passion as related to our clinical, research, and educational missions
  • Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with memory and behavioral disorders in the outpatient clinic
  • Occasionally attending and teaching on the neurology inpatient service
  • Education of residents, medical students, and fellow
  • Pursuit of external funding to support clinical services and research programs
  • Participation on committees to represent the department of neurology as requested by the chair
  • Attending department faculty meetings and other conferences.

Program Description:  Located in a brand new 15,000 sq ft building on UK HealthCare’s Turfland Campus, the Sanders-Brown Memory Clinic co-locates clinical care and clinical research with a single, multidisciplinary team that includes two physicians specializing in memory and cognitive care, neuropsychologists, a geriatric fellow, three advanced practice providers, specialty pharmacists, social workers, and highly experienced nurses.

The Sanders-Brown Memory Clinic offers diagnostic evaluations for adult patients with suspected neurologic disease affecting memory, language, visuo-spatial function or other aspects of cognition. The clinic offers particular expertise in the evaluation and care of patients with late-life cognitive disorders like vascular dementia, Lewy body Disease, and Alzheimer’s Disease. Physicians have special expertise in the diagnostic evaluation of puzzling cognitive disorders occurring in any adult.  The care team at Sanders-Brown provides comprehensive support for healthy aging, including medication management, lifestyle adaptations, support for sleep issues, reduction in fall risks, and even support for sound financial management.

The Sanders-Brown Memory Clinic is part of UK’s Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease, one of the first 10 Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers (ADRC) funded by NIH, and a leader among the 31 ADRCs operating today.  Sanders-Brown has offered its patients an opportunity to participate in over 42 clinical trials in prevention and treatment of dementia since 2015.
