Family and Community Medicine
We have excellent programs that prepares our residents well for a career in family medicine. Our mission is to improve the health of the people of the Commonwealth and society at large. Our goal is to recruit excellent students, to provide training that is second to none and individualized to each resident’s needs and to graduate family physicians who will become well-respected clinicians in their community.
We engage in a robust portfolio of scholarly activities including education and clinical, behavioral, and practice-based research. Research and educational programs have been supported through funding from the Health Research and Services Administration (HRSA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and private foundations.
Clinical Services offer continuing and comprehensive health care and preventive services for the entire family. These include the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries for adults and children, routine gynecology services, maternity care, well-child care, immunizations, preventive check-ups, certain minor surgeries, mental health services, and primary care hospital services.
