Why did you choose the University of Kentucky?
I chose UK because from my first introduction to the program, I felt a sense of community among the attendings and residents. It is a very supportive learning environment with good surgical volume, which prepares learners well to enter practice or fellowship confidently come graduation day. I also got to experience the camaraderie among the residency classes; even as a medical student, I felt welcomed at every turn.
What do you like about your program?
I like the fact that I am surrounded by extremely knowledgeable and friendly faculty. I also like the fact that at UK we see a very wide range of ocular pathology, given the large catchment area we serve. Many of our patients are extremely grateful, as they come from areas with limited access to eye care. Finally, our curriculum allows for early exposure to procedures and patient care, beginning intern year.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy travelling, hiking and camping. My fiancé, Caroline, and I want to eventually camp in every US national park. I am also very interested in food and cooking; I love exploring Lexington's restaurant scene and trying out new places when travelling. I spend a lot of my free time grilling, making pizza, coffee, and experimenting with new recipes. I also enjoy tennis, golf, UK and UVA college athletics.
