Following his Integrated Biomedical Sciences year, Joshua Moses completed an internship with the college’s Office of Strategic Communications focused on science communication.
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is celebrating its first-generation students with a dedicated First Generation Week, co-organized by the offices of Community Advancement (OCA), Biomedical Education (OBE), and Medical Education (OME).
The following individuals were honored at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine Awards Convocation on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. Synchronous events were held at our campuses in Bowling Green, Lexington, Morehead, and Northern Kentucky.

Our mission is to educate physicians and scientists who will positively impact care for patients in the Commonwealth and beyond. Thanks to a variety of ongoing global health initiatives within the college, residents, and fellows are gaining invaluable experience in dozens of countries – helping thousands of patients while learning unique skills to enhance their practice of medicine.
Benjamin Burke, a graduate student in physiology, received an NIH F Award for his work focused on using an "exercise-trained" gut microbiome and associated metabolites to treat disuse atrophy in aged mice.

The UK College of Medicine Integrated Biomedical Sciences (IBS) is an undifferentiated first-year core curriculum that serves as the entry point for a doctoral program in one of six basic science departments.
Beth A. Garvy, PhD, professor and senior associate dean for biomedical education at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, was named president of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB). Her term began July 1, 2024.
The Rutgers Postdoc Peek invites senior PhD and MD/PhD students or current postdocs at US institutions to apply.
Up to 20 candidates will be selected to attend the all-expenses paid 2-day event at Rutgers.
Invited candidates will give 10-minute platform talks, network with faculty and postdocs, and tour the Rutgers campus area.

Josh Moses is a first-year PhD student in physiology. In addition to pursuing a research career, Josh is extremely interested in science communication and hopes to make scientific discoveries and research topics more accessible and easy to understand for non-researchers.

Aaron Chacon has entered the final year of his PhD program in pharmacology and nutritional sciences. Early into his studies, he applied for an F-31 pre-doctoral fellowship with preliminary data and received funding that has supported his research over the last six years.
