A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nikolova-Karakashian in the Department of Physiology at the UK College of Medicine.  The person fulfilling this position will be involved in mentored research on the role of sphingolipids in hepatic inflammation, as it relates to aging and liver disease. 

 A recent Ph.D in any ares of cellular/molecular biology and 0 to 1 years of experience is required. 

Experience with cell culture and small animal models, basic laboratory methods for analysis of proteins/DNA including Western blotting, PCR, and indirect immunofluorescence is required.

No previous lipid experience is needed.

 The successful applicants are expected to have strong work ethic, to work with precision and attention to detail, to possess a critical mindset and possess analytical skills, and be capable of working with limited supervision. Strong motivation, dedication to basic science, and good interpersonal skills are sought.  

If hired, the applicant is expected to work on a project developed by a previous post-doctoral fellow and to submit (with mentor's help) a postdoctoral fellowship application within that project in January 2016.

The position is guaranteed for 1 year but might be extended for up to 3 years, depending upon the availability of extramural funds.
