On October 8, 2026, WIMS (Working in Medicine and Science) honored 3 members of the Department of Physiology during WIMS Day. Each year, WIMS recognizes faculty members, students, and trainees who encourage and support others in their academic and professional endeavors in the UK College of Medicine. The awards given were:

  • Leadership Award - Given to a faculty member who serves as a leader in their profession: Hong Lu, M.D., Ph.D.
  • Mentorship Award - Given to a faculty member who serves as a mentor role model for the UK College of Medicine community: Shannon Macauley, Ph.D.
  • Rising Star Award - Given to outstanding students or post-graduate trainees: Shrishti Naidu (Brian Delisle Lab)

What makes these awards especially meaningful is that they celebrate the impact people have on one another. We are incredibly proud to work alongside Lu, Macauley and Naidu, and celebrate these well-deserved honors.

The Department of Physiology is a thriving academic community because our people provide strong leadership, meaningful mentorship, and commitment to continued growth and excellence. They remind us that our greatest accomplishments are not only measured by the work we do, but also by how we encourage, support, and inspire the people around us. Their willingness to lead by example, invest in others and contribute to our academic community strengthens our department every day.

Congratulations to all three on this well-deserved recognition by WIMS!
