UK Otolaryngology recently hosted a cadaver dissection course for its residents and its neurosurgery colleagues. Partnering with Stryker Corporation, the lab spanned April 12-13, 2021, and involved endoscopic sinus and anterior skull base dissection, as well as facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. UK Otolaryngology residents received nearly 12 hours of hands-on dissection experience and teaching to augment what is being taught in the operating rooms and clinics. Faculty included Sanford Archer, MD, Alok Saini, MD, Nikita Gupta, MD, Amit Patel, MD, Justin Fraser, MD, and Brett Comer, MD. Dr. Saini served as course director. Dr. Saini stated, “Big thanks to Stryker for helping us set up a fantastic cadaver course for our otolaryngology and neurosurgery residents. As a faculty member in an academic setting, I can truly say that watching residents work their way through a dissection and seeing them start to demonstrate a better understanding of anatomy is something that truly makes my job special. We are fortunate here at UK to have a number of outstanding faculty who are willing to help make an experience like this truly worthwhile. Cadaver labs are some of the best ways of simulating operations, trialing new techniques, and learning anatomy. I’m excited to get to work planning the next one.” UK Otolaryngology appreciates Stryker Corporation’s efforts in making the lab a reality.
