The UK College of Medicine seeks a visionary chair with a successful record of achievement in academic research in biochemistry or appropriately related fields. Exceptional accomplishments as a researcher and academician are a must as the chair’s duties will include continuing their own research program as well as supervising and maintaining academic activities.

The predominant criteria for appointment as chair include a national reputation for research, and the proven ability to mentor faculty while training future leaders in biochemistry. A successful candidate will be a nationally-prominent academic leader and role model with an established record of excellence in research, education, and mentorship.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership skills as a listener, decision-maker, humanist, and an effective advocate for the department and its faculty. The candidate should have experience developing collaborative initiatives and the personal characteristics needed to promote, foster, and facilitate the trust of colleagues and the broader University faculty. The successful applicant should demonstrate impeccable integrity and be an effective communicator. Prior extensive administrative experience as a department chair, vice chair, or director of graduate studies or equivalent is preferred.

Scope of Role
As a position of oversight, the chair of molecular and cellular biochemistry will ensure that department faculty work in conjunction with one another and with other groups across the college and campus, sharing research resources whenever possible. This will also include administrative, teaching, laboratory, and mentoring support. The chair will work closely to maximize the net yield of each project and avoid segregation or duplication of work in multiple isolated units.

SCOPE OF ROLE
The chair of ophthalmology will make vital contributions to implementing the organization’s most critical strategies and will strive to achieve excellence in a full range of quality measurements. The chair will serve as a liaison between the department and the enterprise, reporting directly to the dean of the College of Medicine. The chair will be directly involved with strategic planning and service development, as well as market development and outreach strategy. Planning for future growth and recruitment to accomplish department goals will be integral to the duties of chair of ophthalmology.

Introduction
The associate dean of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus provides the overall leadership, implementation, and management of the campus in partnership with College of Medicine leadership, faculty and staff, local community, and health system(s).

The UK College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus, in partnership with Western Kentucky University (WKU) and Med Center Health, welcomed its inaugural class of 30 students in the fall of 2018. The four-year medical school campus complements educational programs at the academic medical center on the Lexington campus, the Rural Physician Leadership Program based in Morehead, and the UK College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus.

Responsibility, Authority, Reporting Relationships

The associate dean reports directly to the senior associate dean for medical student education. Responsibilities include partnering with College of Medicine leadership, faculty, staff, local community and health system(s), and academic partners to implement and oversee all aspects of the medical education program in the community. The associate dean will have oversight and management responsibility for the recruitment and development of teaching faculty and financial stewardship and management. Additionally, they will collaborate to ensure curriculum performance, admissions processes, and student services are aligned to fulfill the College of Medicine’s goals and mission. The associate dean of the UK College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus will build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders in the region and community, including philanthropic support, and serve as the primary liaison with the Lexington Campus, other regional campuses, and college faculty and leadership as well as the dean of the College of Medicine. The faculty member will have a minimum of 40 hours of protected time per week to complete the duties associated with this role.

Bowling Green is a vibrant city located in the south-central region of Kentucky. It is the third most populous city in Kentucky and serves as the county seat of Warren County. It has a diverse economy with a strong emphasis on education, healthcare, and technology. Bowling Green offers a variety of cultural attractions and outdoor activities, including the National Corvette Museum, Lost River Cave, and Mammoth Cave National Park. It’s historic downtown area features a mix of unique shops, restaurants, and cultural venues. The area is known for its vibrant arts community, with regular events and festivals celebrating local artists and musicians.

Med Center Health
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus partners with Med Center Health's area hospitals and clinics to provide students with a variety of educational opportunities. 

These include:
The Medical Center at Bowling Green, the flagship hospital of Med Center Health. A 337-bed acute care hospital, it offers the region’s most comprehensive services, including the only open-heart surgery program in the area and boasts an accredited chest pain center with PCI. It is certified as a primary stroke center, has a comprehensive cancer center, a surgical weight loss program, neuroscience services, and obstetrics and neonatology. Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospitals located within The Medical Center at Bowling Green and offers continuing, long-term care for patients with complex medical conditions and chronic issues.

The Medical Centers at Scottsville and Franklin, also part of Med Center Health, are critical access hospitals. As small, rural hospitals, they provide vital health care services to those who live in more remote areas. Together, these facilities offer 387 acute care beds, 100 extended care beds, and provide patients access to more than 50 specialties.

Western Kentucky University
Bowling Green is home to Western Kentucky University (WKU), a prominent public university with a diverse student body and a strong academic reputation.
